Press means to apply force.

When God said press, prayer reaches every single situation.

He gave us permission to apply force to every situation that we will go through. And in this podcast, we are going to learn to apply force to what's applying pressure to us. Welcome everybody to the Press podcast.

Thanks for joining us.

In Psalms chapter 5, we are going through the book of Psalms. I'm going to start off by reading it today and we're going to just kind of talk about it that way.

I love the book of Psalms.

As you know, they are songs.

This one was written to the chief musician upon Nehiloth.

A Psalm of David.

It's not really known what Nehiloth is. Some people think that it is an instrument or something like that. We don't really know, but that's what it was written upon.

The Bible says, "Give ear to my words, oh Lord. Consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my king and my God, for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, oh Lord. In the morning will I direct my prayer to thee and will look up."

I like that portion because David is letting you know not just how he starts his day, but his first thoughts.

You are who I look for in the morning. You're who I'm looking to, you're who I'm talking to.

That's where my attention goes.

At my first sign of consciousness, I want you.

Oh, that we would crave God like that. That we would love him so much that we want him before we put our feet to the ground to start our day.

We're thinking, "Let me be in tune with you today."

The Bible goes on to say, "For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness, neither shall evil dwell with thee. The foolish shall not stand in thy sight.

Thou hatest all workers of iniquity."

There are some things God hates.

He loves everyone. He's died for everyone, but he hates who they have the choice of becoming.

And when you choose to be opposite of him, when you choose iniquity, he can hate that.

The Bible says, "Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing, or lying is what that word means.

The Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man." He is completely against liars and the deceitful.

Some people think it's okay like to tell a little white lie or to be misleading, but God is totally against you saying things that are not true or coming from an untrue place to be misleading, to be misdirecting.

But David writes, "As for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy, and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple."

God, it is not my own goodness that is saving me. It's not even that I'm better than them.

I'm no good on my own.

But when I come to you, when I come into the sanctuary, I'm coming in the multitude of thy mercy.

It wasn't one mercy that got me here. It wasn't two mercies that got me here. But God, I thank you for the multitude of mercies you've had around me that have allowed me to come into your tabernacle, into your house.

And in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

It's not a fear like, "Oh my gosh, I'm so scared," but there is a reverence and a respect for God.

And he ties it to the fact he's had a multitude of mercies.

In this scripture via that colon, that colon lets us know that he's explaining his fear with God's mercy. I explain my fear, my reverence for God with his mercy.

You see, I recognize it was mercy that he didn't give me what I deserved. It was mercy the way he treated me. It's mercy the fact that I'm in the house of the Lord.

And so I reverence him. I have a respect for him. I can't treat him like everybody else.

And so then the Psalmist continues praying, "Lead me, oh Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies.

Make thy ways straight before my face."

Uh, there's some things you can ask God to do and you may not see it. And there's some prayers we've known we prayed and they don't see the answers.

But there's other times you can say, "God, do it in front of me. I want it right in front of my eyes. Right in front of my face, make the way and lead me."

For there is no faithfulness in their mouth.

He's talking about the enemies, about the lying, the deceitful.

Their inward part is very wickedness. Their throat is an open sepulchre, a tomb.

They flatter with their tongue.

In other words, he said their mouth is deadly. And he said to God, "Destroy thou them. Oh God, let them fall by their own counsels.

Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against thee."

You know, I've noticed a pattern in all these prayers that even when it's the person who's been attacked or it's their enemy, they try not to make it about themselves because when you're walking with God and something comes against you, it's really not about you. They inadvertently are now swinging or fighting against the God who is in you. When you're with him and they're against you, they are therefore against him. So you don't even have to pray about, "Lord, they're treating me like this. They're treating They're doing this to me. They're doing that to me."

You can say it all, but at the end of the day, God, the real trigger is they're fighting against you.

And in verse 10, that's what he's saying, "Destroy thou them, oh God.

Let them fall by their own counsels. Cast them out in the middle of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against thee." But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice.

Let them ever shout for joy because thou defendest them. Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous with favor, wilt compass him as with a shield.

In other words, Lord, even in this, first of all, we're going to praise you.

Let us go ahead and rejoice right now. Let us rejoice with the liars in front of us. Let us rejoice with the deceitful. Let us rejoice in front of our enemies. Let us rejoice in front of those who've taken counsel against us. God, let us rejoice and let us ever shout for joy. Don't let it be interrupted for anything.

Not because of this situation or any situation to come.

Why?

Because thou defendest them.

You are the one that protects us. You're the one that keeps shelter around us. You're the one who watches out for us.

So let them also that love thy name, let them be joyful indeed.

For your name, God is safe.

That's what he's letting us know.

His name is safe. If you love his name, it's okay to be joyful where you are. Where you are may be in the middle of sheer madness.

But we can take joy because like he says in verse 12, you will favor them and compass them with a shield.

God, you are what protects us. You're what keeps us encompassed.

One thing I love about the majority of the Psalms is that they follow this same pattern. They talk to God, they reverence God, they tell him about their troubles, but at the end of it, they remember who they're with and who is with them.

No matter what the enemy's doing, no matter what the enemy is plotting, no matter how he's lying, no matter how surrounded you might be, God is your shield and he's got you. And when God has gotten you, nobody can take you from that place. Don't let anything move you today.

This joy he prayed for, he said, "Let them ever shout for joy."

Let it be permanent.

God can really do permanent things in us. He can give us permanent joy, permanent contentment. It's not contentment based upon a pill, upon a bottle, upon a therapist, but contentment and joy that is not wavering with my life circumstances because I love your name and because you are a shield for us.

God, let us have joy today.

I believe that's the prayer for today's Press podcast listeners.

Today, no matter what, interrupt it with joy. Interrupt it with a praise. Interrupt it with a prayer and a praise that says, "God, I know you defend them that love you. I know you are a shield when we love you. So I'm going to trust you today that you're going to bless the righteous and you're going to favor them and you're going to compass them as with a shield. God, I know you're with me and I thank you for it."

How about we do that prayer today?

Like I said, that prayer is not dependent upon circumstances, just knowing who you're with and who's with you. God, we give you thanks and glory this day. And I thank God because no matter what the situation is, when we press, prayer reaches every single situation and God is with us.

Did you know that when you are quiet, your voice is missing to God's ears?

I know some of us have prayed and we're wondering, "How long should I pray about this? Why should I pray if God already knows?

How will I know God is answering?

And what do I do when I feel like God's not listening?" But God is listening for your voice.

It's too quiet in this world for the troubles we have.

You have to raise your voice and God wants to hear from you.

It's too quiet.

A book about prayer is designed to answer your prayer questions and build your faith.
